During Benji’s 13 years with the family, this Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu mix was my joie de vivre. He was a much-loved companion and together we were one happy entity. Being very much a conceptual dog, Benji’s philosophy was: “I think therefore I am.” But he also possessed some rather unique skills. He could undo reef knots in his hay days and crack hard-to-open pistachio nuts. I often sat down with Benji to enjoy our pistachio nuts. He would be contentedly biting through the nut shells and savouring the extracted kernels.
When it was time for Benji to cross that Rainbow Bridge, I was devastated. It has been said that a dog’s soul is love — I am conscious of Benji’s magnanimous and unrelenting love. While I have lost a soul mate, I have gained a treasure trove of extremely fond memories. Benji — a loyal and loving friend in life and the after life our bond is forever.
